An eddy current array, in its simplest form, is a series of single elements arranged in a row, allowing users to cover a larger area in a single pass than conventional, single-coil probes.
However, this could lead to suboptimal results. That’s why ECA probes use multiplexing. Multiplexing involves activating & deactivating coils in specific sequences to leverage the probe’s width. Multiplexing also minimizes the interference between coils in close proximity (mutual inductance) and maximizes the resolution of the probe.
ECA probes effectively eliminate the raster scanning necessary when using ECT pencil probes. This has a significant impact on inspection speeds.
ECA Solutions
Reddy Surface ECA & MFL
Packaged with the latest technology, Eddyfi Reddy and its embedded data analysis software offer the most intuitive user experience, which includes real-time C-scans, a modern, rugged, and large multi-touch interface, as well as many other features that enable fast, high-PoD surface inspections
Standard ECA Probes
Spyne Array Probe
Spyne an adaptable surface Eddy Current Array (ECA) screening tool, is specifically engineered to maximize productivity for the detection of Stress-Corrosion Cracking (SCC), cracks, subsurface defects, and pitting in various critical components such as high-pressure gas pipes, vessels, tanks, pipelines and more. With a higher PoD than MPI/PT and with its ultrafast capabilities, it paves the way to unprecedented efficiency.
Shark Probe
Sharck is specifically designed for cracking in carbon steel using Tangential Eddy Current Array (TECA) technology. These probes are capable of positioning cracks, measuring their length, and sizing them as deep as 7 mm (0.28 in). This can be achieved without removing paint or protective coatings, unlike more conventional techniques.
ECA Gear Probes
Gears are critical components in a variety of mining equipment, such as girth gears, pinions, bull gears, and sugar mill drive trains. For safety & life-cycle considerations each gear must be closely monitored for surface-breaking cracks caused by stress during operation.
Techniques such as Dye-Penetrant Testing (PT) and Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) are the conventional inspection methods on gears, making them expensive and time consuming.
Padded ECA Probes
Padded probes are perfect for examining weld beads, as well as transition and heat-affected zones. The probes’ unique, proprietary design also allows detecting surface cracks in welds with minimal surface preparation. Furthermore, the probes’ membrane is extra-tough to better withstand friction. Like other Eddyfi surface probes, padded probes come in a wide variety of frequency brackets, number of coils, and two casing sizes: small and medium.
I-Flex Probes
I-Flex probes are specifically designed to fit complex geometries, which makes them perfect for one-pass examinations of pipes, nozzles, turbine blades, wheels, and any other smooth, curved surface.
T-Flex Probes
T-Flex™ probes are specifically designed to fit complex geometries, which makes them perfect for one-pass examinations of pipes, nozzles, turbine blades, wheels, and any other smooth, curved surface.
I-Flex Probes
Apart from Standard ECA Probes Eddyfi also offer Custom ECA Probes. Some Examples Include
- Thight radii (turbine grooves, jet engine blade roots, etc.)
- Small cracking on inner walls of tube and pipe (SS liner in chemical loop reactor, pipeline cladding, artillery, etc.)
- Boreholes and boltholes on large steam turbines
- Threads
- Orbital welds
- Turbo blades and disks
- Submarine hull (inspection through acoustic/anechoic tiles) and many more
The solutions are not only customizable for specific geometries, but also for specific detection requirements. High channel count probes with small sensors for tiny cracking or large coils to detect cracks in bridge decks plates through asphalt, these are only examples of the type of request that make us thrive. Talk to us about your custom probe needs.
We also offer complete lines of standard surface ECA probes and tubing probes that address most typical surface and tube inspection applications.
